Family Therapy

Family therapy is designed to help with issues that affect a family’s overall functioning, and mental and general well-being. It can help individual family members improve communication, manage conflict within the family system, and build healthier relationships.
Some of the primary goals of family therapy are to create a more peaceful and supportive home environment, address family concerns and disagreements amongst family members, and understand the unique issues that a family might face. This is true especially if one or more family members is/are facing a challenge and this seems to be impacting the flow of family dynamics.
I help family members enhance emotional awareness and learn how to engage family life using a more collaborative approach for many different concerns, including but not limited to:
Family dynamics are quite complex and it's possible that some of the above-mentioned issues are interacting with one another and shaping your entire family system.
I have received advanced training in a number of couples and family therapy approaches and have extensive experience teaching the couples and family therapy course for a clinical mental health counseling graduate level program. I currently offer training and consultation for couples and family therapy to professionals across multiple industries and am a professional member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). I personalize your family therapy experience keeping in mind your unique strengths, challenges, and needs as a family. My integrative approach honors your thoughts, feelings, perceptions, physical experience, social-relational experience, and spirituality.
I approach family therapy from a family systems foundation that also focuses on how family members can address an individual family member’s difficulties in a manner that is supportive and collaborative, with the understanding that issues an individual family member is confronting are both influenced by and may influence the entire family system and functioning. When individuals are affected by mental health concerns, family members may sometimes lack awareness of how to offer support and may thus engage in behaviors that enable, maintain, or potentially negatively impact the individual’s condition. Family therapy can help members of the family learn more about what they can do to support their family member who has a mental health concern while preserving their own mental well-being and the overall healthy functioning of the family system.
