I developed this integrative model for counseling/
psychotherapy, teaching, and research in my research textbook, Heuristic Inquiry: Researching Human Experience Holistically, to demonstrate the multifaceted nature of human experience and describe how we exist in the world. The premise of this model is that we all have multiple ways of being in the world. Likewise, we all have many ways of learning what we learn and knowing what we know. I have found that it can be extremely fragmenting to a person's sense of self to undertake therapeutic work from a single dimension of being (e.g., changing one’s thoughts). This also holds true for teaching and for research. This integrative approach/model honors the wholeness of human experience in counseling/ psychotherapy, teaching, and research endeavors.
